**Kharalun of the Qerel
**

Soul Seer, Steppe Warrior

I know your fingernails are the colour of rust,
And your veins are empty of dust;
But our voices collide with each howl of the tide
Singing all hell and its fire waits for us.
A carrd for Kharalun Qerel of Mateus, Crystal Cluster.

(Where's the Qerel Armor? - At all times, tiger pelt, bones, and fur is worked into her attire. I try to make this as obvious as possible in narrative, but assume she is always wearing tiger something.)

RP Hooks:

  • Daughter of the Steppe: Kharalun is a Xaela born and raised on the Steppe, and has always called the Qerel her home. Although she spends some of her time in Eorzea now, she is back and forth frequently, and much of her time is spent with family and roaming the wilds. Tribal Xaela could easily know her from a variety of locations, including Reunion or (more rarely) the Nadaam. Qerel may know her as a boisterous witch eager to be chosen as a future udgan of the tribe.

  • Her Enemies: She salts the fields once she is done burning them. People who anger her know no remorse. Aggressive and unafraid, Kharalun is a spirited fighter and won't back down from any challenge. Chaghan may know her from the attack on Qerel Iloh or a few other locations.

  • An Ambitious Eorzean: As an owner of Pilot's Waystop, Kharalun spends much of her time when she's not on the Steppe taking care of the people who live there. She's motherly and often looks after the people who pass through the tavern doors.

  • Lawless Creature: Kharalun also co-owns the Dark Crimson Tavern, the seedy underground tavern in the basement of the Waystop. She's found in and out of criminal venues and locations, and occasionally a brothel or two. Recently she's found a connection to the Bladewing Consortium, a shipping company with suggestions of less than lawful connections. Laws don't apply to Kharalun, and they never will.

What you Might Notice:

  • Souls Are Drawn to Her: Kharalun's primary focus is spirit magic: speaking to, channeling, and dispelling the spirits of the dead. Those familiar with the practice would know the bones she carries on her person or braided through her hair at all times are charms to help channel the spirits that are constantly surrounding her. Soulsight reveals a variety of spirits that hover around her at all times.

  • Witchery: When fighting for sport, she uses destruction magic. People would recognize her staff as a thaumaturge's arm, likely hand crafted.

  • Handmade, Homegrown: All of her armor is handmade, and all of it sports nods to tigers: tiger pelt and leather is used in the creation of her flowing robes, and tiger bones, carefully engraved with symbols and sigils, hang from her belt and are braided into her hair. When necessary, tiger bones are also made into more structural armor for her protection, and she often uses them as accessories on her horns, neck, and arms.

  • The Volume: This woman is loud. Easily heard over a din of people, Kharalun does not generally care about volume control, and speaks formally at almost all times.

  • The Audacity: If pride was clothing, she'd wear it in spades. She has little to no shame.

Kharalun's Magical Backstory & Information

Kharalun's family have always been blessed with powerful udgan; a family trait on her mother's side, the women of her lineage generally (though not always) possess the unique ability to commune with the spirits of the dead and dying. Oftentimes this power is awakened around the time that the Xaela perform their coming of age rituals, though sometimes it manifests earlier or later, depending on the temperament and spirituality of the person in question. While not as spiritual as the Mol or other tribes, Kharalun's branch of the Qerel tribe believe that the spirits of the tigers they kill in order to clothe and arm themselves linger around the Warrior who slays them, guiding their steps and protecting them from harm. However, these protective tiger spirits are often assaulted by the angry, vengeful spirits of those slain by the Qerel in pursuit of glory and survival. In order to combat the negative sway of the fallen, the Qerel employ 'Spirit Speakers' to ward the tribe and its people from the dead who would do them harm.Using carved tiger bones, cut from kills made during specific holy days, Spirit Speakers are able to channel their aether and attune to spirits that may linger around objects or people. They are capable of dispelling possession by minor creatures or speaking with spirits that hold sway over a person's soul or body. Using the same power, they can attempt to divine the future on behalf of a person or group -- though it is usually vague and nonspecific. Most importantly, Spirit Speakers ward all of the structures and people of their branch of the Qerel tribe, to keep them safe from malevolent spirits.Kharalun is the only daughter of her parents, and inherited the power of her mother, the current family udgan. Kharalun is in possession of all of the traditional spirit abilities of her family. But unlike her mother, a consummate healer who eases the burdens of spirits, Kharalun's ability lies almost exclusively in the destructive. Kharalun can manipulate the life essence of malevolent or beleaguered spirits that are drawn to her and channel it into her own destruction magic, providing her a basis for pushing past her own reserves of mana -- at the cost of their souls, of course. To support this, she carries around her enchanted tiger bones like others would jewelry, drawing the spirits to her like a lodestone for their power. Unfortunately, this has a few unintended side effects -- the never-ending whispers of the vengeful being one of them.Recently, Kharalun has been learning magic from a friend: Haldhielje Syhrgids, a powerful psychopomp and spirit guide. Kharalun's magic has started to be used for good, rather than ill.

**OOC Information
**

  • I am a 21+ roleplayer generally interested in longform RP plots, including criminal and rivalry RP. However, I do not roleplay with minors as a hard rule, and any fighting, romance, or ERP must be discussed in advance.

  • I'm not interested in an OOC relationship, so if that's what you're looking for, I'll have to decline. All romantic or ERP interactions are to be kept IC.

  • Whisper me if you'd like to already have met her somewhere! I love having a basis for our characters to chat.

  • I prefer to resolve fights with roleplay over rolling, but I'm not adverse to the latter. We can talk about it if fighting comes up.

  • I prefer paragraph RP in a 1-on-1 situation, but I'll happily adjust my length to match that of my partners. Just let me know if you'd prefer longer or shorter replies!

  • Kharalun can be a prideful snot at times, but I'm happy to talk if something makes you uncomfortable. Please feel free to whisper me if you don't like the way a scene is going; I want to make sure it's fun for all of us.
